Cylinder inspection

On this page we have collected information regarding periodic inspection of cylinders supplied by Interspiro. You will find links to instructions and spare parts. We cover both currently delivered cylinders as well as legacy cylinder models.

Cylinder types

Interspiro's breathing apparatus and diving apparatus are used with the following types of cylinders:

  • Full composite of the CTS type
  • Full composite Spirolite (fire fighting)
  • Full compsote Divator Lite (diving)
  • Aluminum composite of the Luxfer & SCI type
  • Steel cylinders

Use the information below to identify the type of cylinder. Follow the instructions references in the relevant section(s) together with relevant product standards and national regulations when performing periodic cylinder inspection.

According to EU regulations, specifically the European Directive 2014/68/EU (Pressure Equipment Directive or PED), the periodic inspection must be done by a person who is appropriately qualified and authorized to do so. This generally means:

  1. Trained and Competent Personnel: The individual must have the necessary training and competence in handling pressurized cylinders and related equipment. In many EU countries, only technicians who have been certified by a recognized body or under a specific national standard are legally allowed to perform such tasks. These technicians are trained to safely handle the removal and installation of valves, ensuring that the integrity of the cylinder is maintained.

  2. Service Centers: The task should be carried out in an authorized service center that is equipped to safely manage high-pressure systems. These centers are generally required to comply with both national and EU safety standards.

  3. Inspection and Testing: After the valve is removed, the cylinder must handled, inspected, and tested according to applicable regulations (such as hydrostatic testing) and Interspiro specific instructions before it can be returned to service.

It is your obligation to heed relevant national regulations and laws in your country when performing the inspection. Improper handling can lead to dangerous outcomes, including personal injury and death.
